Tuckered Out

I'm still walking or running with the babies almost every day.  Some days, they seem to really enjoy it, but sometimes Miles gets whiny and needs to be carried in the Ergo.  Vivienne will often take a nap during our outing.  One day this week, she looked particularly tuckered out.  I guess it was a little too much excitement for her.

Clearly this run was very exciting.

Kitty Friends

Miles and Vivienne are becoming fast friends with two furry playmates.

Chloe babysits Vivienne while I do laundry.
Noah has learned to stay an arm's length away.
Mmmm... Vivienne smells like milk!!

I Think I Can

I think I have my own version of separation anxiety.  Around the time of the baby dedication at church, we had help here for over 2 solid weeks - one week with Jason's parents and then one week with my parents.  It was such a blessing to have help for such a long time.  I'm able to take long showers, get chores done, run errands, get my hair cut... it's wonderful.

However, I have noticed that when our visitors' departure is approaching, I start to feel anxiety about running solo with the babies again.  It's not strong anxiety, but it's anxiety nonetheless - I can feel the butterflies in my stomach as I start to wonder what I'm going to do when both babies cry, how I'm going to feed them both solid food at the same time (especially with Miles on a new "food strike"), how I'm going to manage Vivienne's increased dependency on having my arms to hold her (when they also have to hold her dear brother).

But our company always departs, and within the first hour, I remember how I do things around here.  The days go on and I mother these babies to the best of my abilities and we somehow all survive.  Not only do we survive, but I truly enjoy my days with them, even when we're just sitting on the floor of the family room playing with their toys and watching the rain fall outside.  It's no cake walk, but to say that it's worth the hard work is the understatement of my life.

Hopefully it will eventually sink in for me that I can do this and I'll be able to have company without having a panic attack when they leave.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

Vitamin Drops with Iron

We've been trying to give Miles and Vivienne vitamin drops with iron in them - specifically Tri-Vi-Sol with Iron.  Unfortunately, this stuff tastes awful.  Both babies would gladly take their old multi-vitamin drops, but when I bought the Tri-Vi-Sol with Iron, they understandably went on a vitamin strike.

To date, I've been making all of their baby food from scratch.  It's really very easy, and I like knowing what is going into my little ones.  We tried stirring the iron drops into sweet potatoes.  It smelled completely nasty, but I refused to actually try it until my mother was here and urged me to actually sample what I was trying to force down my poor babies.  Well, I tried it and it was disgusting.

So, today, we finally gave them commercial rice cereal (iron-fortified) for the first time.  They ate it up!  So, I think they'll be eating iron-fortified commercial cereal on a fairly regular basis.

We also gave Vivienne and Miles commercial peas for the first time.  We were eating with dear friends at Neomonde, and wanted the babies to eat with us.  They loved it!  We'll use commercial food when we're out and about, and we'll use homemade food for all of our home meals (and most of our meals are at home).

(Huge thanks to Angela for giving this to me the rice cereal and peas a couple months ago!)

First Birthday Party Invite!

Last week, Miles and Vivienne got their first official birthday party invitation in the mail.  How fun!!  One of their adorable little friends, Sophie (LOVE that name!), is turning one year old soon.  The babies are so excited to go to her party, in their own cute baby way.  =)

Thanks for the invitation, Rachel and Sophie!

Puffs = Puke

Apparently, around here, puffs = puke.

Yesterday, we went to SAS to have lunch with Jason.  I decided to take some puffs to feed the babies.  Now, of course, our babies have never had rice cereal or wheat or anything like that (ALL of which are in puffs!!), but apparently I figured it was a great idea to just go ahead and feed puffs to them.  So at lunch, I fed Miles about 10 of them and Vivienne had a handful as well.

That evening, Miles threw up all over my dad and then all over Jason.  And this was clearly not spit-up.  Vivienne also vomited a little bit, but nothing like Miles.  Poor little man, he cried his eyes out and was obviously not feeling well.  But, luckily, after he got it all out, he seemed good as new.

Note to self:  introduce new foods to the babies slowly, especially when they have lots of different ingredients.

Multiples Class Reunion

Today was a really fun day.  We had a reunion of our Multiples Birthing Class from WakeMed Cary.  Some of us have kept in contact through Facebook and email, but last time we all saw each other, we had swollen ankles and huge bellies.  Today, for the first time, we got to meet each other's babies.

There were 5 sets of twins at our home and 1 set of twins joining us by Skype from China (even though it was 1 in the morning there!).  It was such a joy to reunite with our friends and our wonderful instructor, Kathy.  Thanks to everyone for coming over and bringing your beautiful babies!

The babies played together on the floor.

Seriously, Cody could sleep through anything.

Raiden's little giggle is infectious.

Carleigh and Cody are our youngest twins.
