Current Food List

Last night, I cut up some baby carrots and steamed them for the babies.  They both loved playing with them.  Vivienne seemed to get most of them in her mouth, but when we were cleaning her up afterwards, we realized that she had caught at least 10 of them down in her bib.  =)  Well, hopefully she ate at least a few of them!

Miles would get the carrots up to his mouth, but would then drop them as he was making the transfer from the hand to the mouth.  Sometimes he would actually get the carrot into his mouth, but then he would chew with his mouth open and it would fall out.  Oh, well.  Eventually they will get the hang of it!

Here is a list of the foods that the babies have eaten to date (nearly all homemade except when we're eating lunch out):

Vegetables:
  • Kale
  • Carrots
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Green Beans
  • Peas
  • Asparagus

Fruit:
  • Cantaloupe
  • Honeydew
  • Grapes
  • Kiwi
  • Mango
  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Raspberries
  • Pears
  • Blueberries
  • Avocado
  • Prunes (definitely a favorite)

Meat:
  • Chicken
Grains:
  • Bread (white & wheat, but mostly wheat)
  • Puffs
  • Cheerios
  • Wheat Germ
  • Rice cereal
  • White rice
Dairy:
  • Cheese (mozzarella)
  • Yogurt
  • Cottage Cheese

  1. You should try ground turkey seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic powder. It can be a finger food or ground up. Just make sure you get the 'fat' kind (get lean, not extra lean) the extra lean kind does not even have enough fat to grease the frying pan and does not taste as good.

  2. Leslie- Which of these do you do as finger foods? Lukas is all about puffs but I worry about choking on real foods since he only has two teeth...how small do you cut up things like carrots? (He is 8 months now.)

On another note, how did you keep the babies entertained while you spent hours digging and planting shrubs?! What's your secret? :)

  3. Emily, for finger foods, we do carrots, avocado, cantaloupe, grapes, mango, apple and cheese and a few others. The avocado, cantaloupe and mango are really hard for them to grasp because they are slippery.

I slice the carrots up and steam them. That makes them very soft and easy for the babies to gum. My babies are 10 months old almost, but they don't really have teeth. Vivienne is barely breaking her first tooth and Miles doesn't have ANY teeth. =)
