The Third Crib (and Other Good Deals)

Jason thought I may have lost my mind yesterday.  I went to a consignment sale at a church nearby.  They were closing at 3, and I got there around 2:45.  So I didn't have much time to shop, but they had nearly everything at 50% off since the sale was just about to end... including a white crib.  Yes, I bought a THIRD crib for our TWO babies.  It's not identical to the other one(s), but it will match closely enough.  It also came with a mattress that looks brand new (these seem to retail for something between $60 up to $150 or more each, and we don't have any mattresses yet).

So I'm going to sell the last crib that we bought on Craiglist for the $150 that we paid for it.  The way I see this, I'm saving us $100 and we have one crib mattress now.

I also got 5 or 6 pairs of maternity shorts from a combination of Good Will and the consignment sale yesterday for under $10 total (including tax).  I just don't want to spend too much money on things that I'll only wear for a few months, and I'm thinking that any time I'll be wearing my maternity shorts I will probably not be looking my best.  I'll save that for the nice maternity jeans that my mom bought me.  =)

I'm a frugal mommy.

Oh, and it occurred to me for the first time this weekend that I have three hearts beating inside of me.  That's pretty darn cool.  We'll find out on Friday whether we're having sons or daughters or one of each - can't wait!  Hope you all had a great weekend!

  1. I love following your adventures, and I'm impressed by the great deals you've found! I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of the finished nursery... I also fell in love with the blog your friends write to document the lives of their now three beautiful young children, Fireworks and Fireflies.

Maddie is finally getting to the point where the resale shops no longer have her sizes very often. I've started to shop at the end of the season for next year's clothing... Unbelievably, I end up spending less by hitting the sales at Gymboree and Macy's. Gymboree often has last season's items off the racks and in the back due to their small space, and by inquiring about those items, I usually end up with amazing deals.

  2. Thanks, Ginny. I'm glad you're following Fireworks and Fireflies, too. They are dear friends of ours, and we're so lucky to have them and their beautiful children in our lives. We can't wait to meet little Darcy!

Thanks for the suggestions for Gymboree & Macy's. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled when we start buying little clothes.

Maddie is just the cutest little girl. I can't believe how big she's getting. I read all of your blog posts, and I love the pictures. It looks like you spend a lot of time outdoors, and I think that's awesome.
